Understanding Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is the collective name for a group of cobalt-containing compounds known as cobalamins.
During your training, you will learn about the role of Vitamin B12 within the body and its contribution to normal functions including red blood cell formation, nervous-system function and normal energy-yielding metabolism.
Different forms of Vitamin B12 are introduced, including hydroxocobalamin, which is commonly used for intramuscular Vitamin B12 injections in UK healthcare practice.
This provides important foundation knowledge before progressing into treatment-specific theory and practical application.
Consultation & Client Safety
A thorough consultation is an essential part of professional Vitamin B12 treatment.
You will learn about reviewing a client’s medical history and current medications, identifying contraindications and cautions, assessing suitability and obtaining informed consent.
Possible adverse reactions are also covered, including localised redness or swelling, mild discomfort or tenderness, bruising, dizziness or a vasovagal response, headache and nausea.
The course also addresses awareness of rare severe allergic reactions and the importance of appropriate emergency management.
Anatomy & Intramuscular Administration
The course revisits the anatomy relevant to intramuscular administration, with particular focus on the deltoid muscle.
Learners will consider muscle depth and the importance of awareness of surrounding blood vessels and nerve structures when identifying an appropriate injection site.
Injection safety includes appropriate needle length and gauge, aseptic non-touch technique, correct insertion angle and safe disposal of sharps.
Practical demonstration supports the theory covered within this element of the course.
Aftercare
Appropriate aftercare forms an important part of completing a Vitamin B12 treatment.
Learners will cover advice including:
- Keeping the injection site clean and dry
- Avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Understanding that mild soreness or redness may occur
- Avoiding massage of the treated area
- Reporting unusual or prolonged reactions
Choose Online or In-Person Training
Our IPHM Accredited Vitamin B12 Injection Training Course is available through two learning routes, allowing you to choose the option most appropriate for you.
Online Training
Complete the theory element through our online academy at your own pace.
Once you have successfully completed the theory learning and final assessment, you will progress to the practical element of your course.
Online learners are required to complete and upload two Vitamin B12 administration case studies, demonstrating the treatment protocol and procedure.
Your case studies should demonstrate the treatment process from consultation and preparation through to administration, aftercare and treatment documentation.
Both case studies must be successfully assessed before your practical element is complete.

In-Person Training
If you prefer classroom-based practical learning, you can choose the in-person training route.
This provides the opportunity to complete supervised practical training and demonstrate your Vitamin B12 administration procedure as part of your practical assessment.
Classroom practical training can be booked by contacting us through our Contact page.
Assessment
The theory element concludes with a 10-question multiple-choice assessment covering the key knowledge taught throughout the course.
A minimum score of 80% is required to pass.
Successful completion of the theory assessment allows you to progress to your chosen practical assessment route:
Online learners: Two Vitamin B12 administration case studies.
In-person learners: Supervised classroom practical assessment.
Completion of the theory assessment alone does not constitute completion of the full course.
IPHM Accredited Certification
This Vitamin B12 Injection Training Course is IPHM Accredited.
Your course certificate will be issued following successful completion of all required theory and practical assessment elements.
This means your learning pathway is:
Theory learning → Final theory assessment → Practical assessment → Successful course completion → Certification
